The Kunsthalle Trier will host the exhibition “SARAH SCHUMANN – Woman Icon” from November 30, 2023 to January 28, 2024.
Sarah Schumann (1933-2019) was an important representative of post-war modernism in Germany. Starting from Surrealism, she developed her unique style, characterized by mysterious landscapes and portraits. A focal point in her work – and in the exhibition in Trier – is the image of woman and the female figure as myth. Schumann’s art was also influenced by her extensive travels to Africa, India, and Russia. A highlight of her work is the Moscow cycle created in 1993/94, which shows Western icons in an Eastern setting and is on view at the Kunsthalle.
