Under the title “THIRTIES: Colour Codes“, the Kunsthalle Trier is presenting an exhibition with works by six artists from Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland. With the motto of the Rhineland-Palatinate cultural summer “Stars of the South”, the exhibition explores various dimensions of this cultural festival.
The exhibition of contemporary paintings, sculptural works and spatial installations by artists in their 30s celebrates artistic expression and cultural dialog. The selection of artists highlights their educational backgrounds, studies and experiences abroad and emphasizes the profound impact of geographical changes on their connection to their cultural roots and their interaction with their chosen homeland.
Exhibition focus: “Colour Codes”
Colour is more than a pigment of artistic expression; it attracts attention, conveys important visual cues and evokes emotions. At the same time, the perception of colour is subjective, and the understanding of its meanings and functions is not universal. It is a language of its own that carries emotions, stories and social dynamics. The exhibition “THIRTIES: Colour Codes” explores the interplay of colours and social narratives.

- Ibrahim Erdogan – Emphasizes the flowing properties of glass and depicts socio-cultural themes in hir glass objects.
- Sylvain Gelewski – explores concepts of time and social location in his spatial installations and reflects on mortality and dignity.
- Julien Hübsch – Explores urban spaces and human interventions to decode the meaning of everyday remnants.
- Xavier Karger – Combines pop art influences with radical minimalism to explore contemporary social issues.
- Lukas Matuschek – Investigates absence within representation, allowing alternative layers of meaning to emerge.
- Katrin Nicklas – Analyzes production processes through spatial installations and reflects on the relationship between the body and the tool.
